Worldwide Book Drive is dedicated to building the largest and most accessible catalog of free books—in the world. 

How did we get started?

Over a year ago, two college graduates from Brigham Young University, (John and Dave) discovered significant inefficiencies in the collection and distribution of second hand books.  Recognizing the immense benefit of improving the system, John and Dave began building the foundations for what they believed could be the largest and most accessible database of free books in the world—The Worldwide Book Drive, (WBD).

Okay, sooo…?

Unused books destroy the environment and are a failed opportunity to promote literacy.  Every year, the extra work and expensive costs of processing and distributing used books drives millions of pounds of used books to landfills, or corrosive storage units.  In these places, the books become a detriment to the environment and moreover, do not help promote literacy.

By efficiently streamlining the process of collection, sorting, storing and distribution of these books, WBD has developed a sustainable system for collection, reselling and donation of needed books to qualified organizations.  WBD has the infrastructure and model to support the largest database and resource of free books—in the world.

WBD is already making a difference

In the short time that WBD has been running we have salvaged tens of thousands of pounds of books from going unused or dumped into landfills.  Instead, these books have been recycled/redistributed and are being placed in the hands of individuals, students and facilities where their designed educational value will continue to be appreciated for years to come.  By placing second hand books in the hands of dedicated readers, WBD and proactive communities are revolutionizing the used book industry.
