General Questions

Is Worldwide Book Drive a Non-Profit Organization?
Worldwide Book Drive is a social venture, not a non-profit organization.
We are a philanthropic business working to harness the power of commerce to benefit society. Worldwide Book Drive
works closely with numerous non-profit organizations to source and distribute
needed books to further our mission. We believe we can more effectively work with our local, national and
worldwide literacy and recycling partners by operating as a for-profit entity, as opposed to a non-profit organization.
|
Where do the books come from?
Private organizations, schools, bookstores, libraries, students, professors, families,
and everyday people give books and magazines they are not using.
|
What happens to books given to Worldwide Book Drive?
The books and magazines that Worldwide Book Drive collects are sorted and then distributed to organizations where the books are most needed.
Most of the books
that WBD receives are donated to qualified schools, inner-city community
centers, international development organizations and other community outreach entities.
Some books are sold, about 6%, for revenue to cover the overhead expenses of collections, warehousing,
sorting, processing, recycling and the growth and development of Worldwide Book
Drive.
|
Does Worldwide Book Drive Recycle Books?
Worldwide Book Drive is among the few hardback book recyclers
in the Mountain West Region. To recycle hardback books, disabled adults are paid to remove the spines from the books
and sort the paper so that the pages can be turned
back into paper. The recycling income from these efforts is paid to Life Skills & Vocational Centers - sheltered workshops for adults.
|
What type of books does Worldwide Book Drive carry?
All of the books we donate are in good condition and can benefit people for years.
Children’s: we have two different types.
- Type 1: These are thin books that usually have a stapled binding. These are smaller and cheaper to ship.
- Type 2: These are usually higher quality books with hard covers.
Paperback: ALL types of paperback books.
Hardback: ALL types of hardback books: non-fiction, reference, self-help, popular novels, textbooks, etc.
Popular: a mix of paperback and hardback books, but this sort contains some of the most common books.
