Worldwide Book Drive is a fun and effective Eagle Scout Project.

Did you know that approximately 785 million people worldwide are illiterate?  And were you aware that the number of hours a child is read to aloud is the one of the single greatest indicators of that child’s success in life?  Books clearly have a great impact on the lives of men, women and children. But not everyone has the opportunity to read, nor has access to books. You can help By running a book drive as your Eagle Scout project, you can make a difference in world literacy by bring access to books to people in America and in developing countries worldwide.

Millions of books exist in homes where they are not being used.  These books are important resources that , if collected and properly distributed, can be greatly utilized. However, it can be costly to appropriately and effectively collect, sort, store and distribute books to those in need.

This is where Worldwide Book Drive comes in.  Worldwide Book Drive will help you organize a charitable book drive as an Eagle Scout Project and will ensure that the books raised by you will be properly distributed.   Not only will we give your Eagle Project the necessary tools to make it a Boy-Scout-approved success but we also have the complete support to make sure that not a single book you receive goes to waste.

As you can see from the progress meter on this website, we are making significant progress in our efforts to donate books to those in need in the United States and abroad.  Thousands of books have been donated into the homes of under-privileged students throughout the United States, including Idaho, Utah and Arizona this year alone.  We have shipped hundreds of thousands of books globally to benefit literacy programs in Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua numerous countries in Africa and more!

Your Boy Scout Approved Book Drive will benefit the following:

Individuals: Worldwide Book Drive provides books to national literacy groups that will distribute the books to individuals and children, giving them the opportunity to read in their own homes.

Schools: Books from your Eagle Scout Project are provided to schools where teachers’ budgets cannot afford books to meet their students needs.  Books distributed to schools benefit both students and teachers in endeavors to provide meaningful education and training.

Libraries and Prisons: Worldwide Book Drive distributes the books from book drives to literacy programs benefiting adults, including programs rolled out by libraries and prisons.

Recycling: Books from book drives that would otherwise be discarded and sent to landfills are recycled and turned into paper.  Hardbound or spiral books cannot be recycled through traditional means because of the glue and plastics used in the binding.  Worldwide Book Drive partners with the Life Skills Center for the Severely Disabled to remove the paper from the spines of all books possible, which allows the books to be recycled and also provides a source of revenue to benefit the Life Skills Center.

International programs are also in dire need of both and English and foreign-language Books:

Small and rural villages:
Many developing countries throughout the world are in significant need of educational materials for a growing population of global citizens.

Municipal or University Libraries: Civil wars and warlord propaganda cleanings have ravaged entire libraries that need to be refilled.
