How did we get started?
In 2005, John and Dave, two college graduates from Brigham Young
University discovered significant inefficiencies in the collection
and distribution of secondhand books. Recognizing that there could be an immense benefit by improving
the system, John and Dave began building the foundations for what they believed
could be an organization with an incredible force for good.
|
Why books?
Unused books destroy the environment and are a failed opportunity to promote literacy. Every year, the extra work and expense of processing and distributing used books
drives millions of pounds of used books to landfills or corrosive storage units.
In these places, the books become a detriment to the environment. And moreover,
the loss of these books prevents them from being used to help battle worldwide illiteracy.
Today, WBD has developed a streamlined system for the collection, resale and
donation of needed books to qualified organizations promoting literacy. Just as John and Dave first envisioned, WBD now has the infrastructure and the model to donate hundreds of thousands of books a year.

WBD is already making a difference
In the short time that WBD has been running,
WBD has salvaged millions of pounds of books from going unused or being
dumped into landfills. Instead, these books have been recycled or redistributed
and are being placed in the hands of individuals, students and facilities so that
the books' designed educational value will continue to be appreciated for years
to come. By placing secondhand books in the hands of dedicated readers, WBD and
proactive communities are revolutionizing the used-book industry.
So come and be part of the Worldwide Book Drive Revolution—GIVE or GET books now!
